Want to bring the dog with you on your French carp fishing trip? Well you are in luck, as the process of getting your pet passported is now easier than ever and many of our lakes welcome responsible dog owners and their beloved pets.
1. Firstly, get sorted with the pet passport
You will need to ensure that your pet has the appropriate pet passport with up to date vaccinations.
Find all the latest information here directly from the UK government website: Taking your pet abroad.
Within the last few days of your holiday you will need to organise a quick trip to the local French vets for a tapeworm treatment too (again see link above for full information).
French veterinary practices are well used to these appointments, so don’t worry about the language barrier too much. Our lake owners will know the nearest veterinary practice and are usually more than happy to make the appointment for you too if requested.

2. Choose your crossing route
Most opt for the shorter P&O ferry Dover-Calais (2.5hrs) or the Eurotunnel crossings (30mins) where your pet will stay in the car.
However Brittany Ferries now offer pet-friendly cabins on some boats (for example the Portsmouth-Caen crossing) and if you’re heading for a venue to the west of France this will drastically cut down your drive time. P&O also now offer pet lounges for the short 90 minute crossing so you don´t have to leave them in the car.
If you are unsure on which crossing will suit you best then give us a call and we will be happy to help you plan.
3. Discover our dog friendly venues

Most are drive and survive venues;

Hi I’m interested in a holiday with my pet close to a ferry port
Hi Richard
It depends on the type of venue you are after, you can use our venue search function here (just tick that you want venues that allow pets) – https://www.anglinglines.com/venues/
There is also a map here to see how far they are from the ports.
The closest to Calais are Beaurepaire and Deux Iles, at under 3 hours from Calais –

Slightly off topic I know , but can anyone recommend a decent barbel river with accomodation on the bank . I have two small dogs and would love somewhere in the north of France to fish for the barbel . Any advice would be greatly appreciated .
