A year in the life of an Angling Lines Field Tester – Pt 2

Paul Cooper is one of a small band of anglers we use to Field Test our venues. Over the course of several Blog Posts he’ll take you through his 2010 trips;

Part 2 – Etang Molyneux

Another call from David at Angling Lines in early June and Pat Gillet and I were off to Etang Molyneux in Northern France. I first visited this venue 3 years earlier in mid-March when the weather was down to zero. We had excellent week’s fishing then, hopefully this trip would be as productive as the last.

The fishery owner, Andrew Molyneux, informed us that the fish had already spawned a few weeks earlier and were slowly recovering from their ordeal. With this in mind the fish would be down in weight but at least should be up for a free meal or two, compliments of Quest Baits and Shaun’s Chilli Chocolate boilies.

Talking of food, knowing the excellent service that Andrew provides we both decided to have the meal package that he supplies. This was a priceless decision.

Molyneux is around 12 acres with 13 set swims and it took around 4 hours of studying the water for fish movement before I made a decision where to start off my campaign. I chose to fish at distance towards a large central island, using tight lines and heavy bobbins.

With thunder storms at the beginning of the week and temperatures ranging from 18 degrees to 30 degrees, the carp steadily came to the bank, with my tally by the 6th day being 25 carp to 40lb 4oz, with 6 being over 30lb and the remainder of the fish averaging 28lb. Pat landed a further 8 fish to 31lb 12oz. We said our goodbyes to Andrew and thanked him for another wonderful week at his lake and left hoping that we may get an invite back in the near future.

Since my visit Roy Fulton of Clearview has taken over the running of Molyneux & I’m delighted to say he’s asked me back… so I’m off to Molyneux again on March 26th.  I’ll let you know how I get on….
